The primary focus of the nature preserve is to maintain and/or restore its natural ecological conditions to protect the land and its native plants and wildlife.
If a heat index of 110 is forecast, an Excessive Heat Warning is released by NOAA, and the preserve will be closed. Additionally, there is a weather station accessible online to monitor weather conditions.
Visitors are encouraged to pack out their trash, including dog waste and used bottles, and dispose of them in trash bins at the entrance to the preserve.
Visitors are advised to call ahead to see if the trails are open after a rain event, as hiking on wet trails can cause long-term damage. Additionally, visitors are encouraged to enjoy paved hike/bike trails in the area instead.
Visitors can become Friends of the preserve and participate in Conservation in Action Workdays on the Third Saturday of every month. These workdays focus on habitat restoration and trail maintenance to help preserve the natural environment.
